Important Update: Service Pack 2 for AVG 8.0
AVG Technologies has released Service Pack 2 for AVG 8.0. This is an important update that brings many fixes and performance enhancements for AVG 8.0 users.
As part of the install process a reboot is required. It is very important that you restart all computers running AVG after this install so that you can benefit from the Service Pack enhancements and continue to receive all future updates and virus definitions.
| AVG 8.0 Service Pack2 has a lot of enhancements such as improved API support, overall optimization with lower resources usage and faster perfomance, improved stability of plugins, option of cleaning log files, support to revert AVI databases to previous version. It also provides the possibility or importing data from WAB file (Windows Address Book) to white list, option of putting sent mails recipients to white list automatically and support for Mozilla Firefox 3 cookies scanning and healing. |
Below are common issues that have been found with AVG along with suggested solutions.
1. ISSUE: Resident Shield and/or Web Shield is not active
After installation or update of AVG, the Resident Shield and/or Web Shield may, under specific circumstances, report to be inactive or not fully functional. This situation is usually caused by incorrect access rights to AVG program folder. To resolve the issue, please proceed as follows:
1. Download the Reset Access utility from our website. It is recommended to save the file to your Desktop:
Reset Access version 8 | Reset Access version 9
2. Once the file is downloaded, please run it. Detailed information on how to use the utility will be displayed on your screen once you run the file.
3. After using the utility according to the instructions restart your computer.After the restart, the situation will be resolved. Should you encounter any further issues, contact AVG technical support.
2. ISSUE: Inactive components and/or blocked Internet connection after update to AVG 8.0.196
RESOLUTION: Download Build #199 or higher. To do this, launch AVG Update from the AVG program and select "program update" from the list of updates available. This will initiate an update to the latest build, which fixes both the inactive components and blocked internet connection issues. If there is a problem with updating from within the AVG program, the update can also be downloaded directly from http://www.avg.com/download-update; if this route is taken, a repair installation should be performed. If you are experiencing a blocked Internet connection, you may also need to follow the steps outlined in FAQ #1561, http://www.avg.com/faq.num-1561#faq_1561, to access the download URL.
3. ISSUE: BSOD under Windows Vista after update to AVG 8.0.196 or crash and subsequent inactivation of AVG Firewall
RESOLUTION: Updating to Build #199 or higher resolves these issues. Launch AVG Update from the AVG program and select "program update" from the list of updates available. If there is a problem with updating from within the AVG program, the update can also be downloaded directly from http://www.avg.com/download-update; if this route is taken, a repair installation should be performed. 4. ISSUE: Error message - Invalid update control CTF file when trying to update AVG
RESOLUTION: Download Build #199 or higher from http://www.avg.com/download-update and perform a repair installation. You can find additional information about this issue in FAQ #1565, http://www.avg.com/faq.num-1565#faq_1565.
